SATURDAY, March 27:

 Thumbprint, Funprint! 

Instructor: Kristie Proctor

1-2 PM

Kids ages 6-9

 Learn to draw animals, trucks and more using your unique thumbprint. A few lines and scribbles will turn a thumbprint into a work of art! Based on Ed Emberley’s drawing books, workshop participants will explore their creativity with stamp pads, pens, and imagination. No materials fee.

Kristie Proctor is a crafty person who enjoys children of all ages, vibrant colors, and altered art. She lives in Grafton with her husband and three daughters. In real life, she works as a disability specialist and is an enthusiastic sea glass collector!

Zentangle for All Ages:

 Instructors: Kathy Freeburn and Donna Conroy, Certified Zentangle Teachers

 Zentangle is an artistic meditation that supports relaxation, focus and inspiration. Participants will create beautiful images from repetitive patterns. If you can hold a pen, you can tangle – families welcome!

Bamboo and Panda: A taste of Chinese Ink Painting

Instructor: Sharon Smith Viles

 Chinese Brush Painting is an art practiced in China for 2000 years and in the West since the 1940’s. It is based in the writing of the Chinese characters and expanded to include all aspects of art. The workshop will explore the use of the Chinese brush and ink, an introduction to the various types of paper used, and a short story about a panda rescued after and earth quake.

Watercolor Landscapes 

Instructor: Christine Crowell

Adults and Children ages 11 and older

Materials fee $10.00

 Learn to paint two different types of watercolor landscapes using specific textural water color techniques. Participants will experiment with a variety of materials including salt, plastic wrap, sponges and masking tape.

 SUNDAY, March 28

 Paper Circus

Instructor: Rebecca Micucci

Children ages 5-10

Materials fee $1.00

 Create a paper circus or amusement part by creating 3D structures out of paper. Participants will learn a variety of folding and curling techniques to equip their imagination and create a paper environment where the sky is the limit!

 Rebecca Micucci is an artist, teacher, and mom. She was the art teacher at Grafton Middle School from 2002-2007, and has since been teaching at the YMCA, the JCC, and private lessons. Rebecca has a BFA in ceramics and art therapy from Alfred University and a MEd in art education from Lesley University. Rebecca specializes in bringing the joy of making art to children young and old.

Orb-on-a-Cord ~ Chain Maille Pendant

 Instructor: Beth Hall – Adderstone Jewelry

 2:00-4:00 PM

Ages 13 – Adult

Materials fee $10.00

 Learn the ancient art of chain maille making and create your own inspirational pendant. Particpants will be taught the Japanese chain maille weave using pliers (supplied or bring your own) and jump rings to complete a pendant with a hidden gem. Variations on this weave will be introduced to create earrings, bracelets and more. Participants can purchase additional tools or materials to make a pair of earring or other designs.

Beth Hall has been designing and creating jewelry as a passionate hobby for the past 30 years. She was inspired as a child by the ethnic adornment found in her grandfather’s National Geographic magazines and later her love for ancient artifacts. Beth’s jewelry designs reflect archaeological, spiritual, and cultural motifs reminiscent of tribal ornamentation with a cultivated contemporary edge. She enjoys incorporating a variety of natural elements into her metalwork including dinosaur bone, hand-made paper, horsehair, and stone. Beth’s studies in jewelry fabrication include classes from the prestigious Revere Academy in San Francisco and various arts centers throughout the country. Opening our Hearts through Poetry

  Instructor: Reina O’Connor

Especially designed for women who wish to open their hearts by exploring poems written by extraordinary female poets such as Maya Angelou, Marge Percy, Mary Oliver, and others. Our aim will be to read and discuss selected poems that illuminate issues and concerns significant to women. Through guided meditation and imagery exercises, workshop attendees will have an opportunity to write their own thoughts and poetry. No prior writing or poetry experience is required to enjoy this special time reserved for women. A beautiful journal will be given to the first eight attendees who register.

 

Batik Painting on Silk

  Instructor: Patti Sims

 2:00 – 4:00 PM

Ages 13 – Adult

Materials Fee $10.00

 Learn about Batik, an Indonesian wax resist technique that creates beautiful patterns in repetition or free form painting. This workshop introduces the materials and tools for creating unique designs using non-toxic soy wax and fabric dyes on silk. You’ll experiment with printing, stencils, tjanting tools and brushes and create a beautiful silk scarf to take home. No experience with dyes, silk or resist techniques necessary!
