Discover the
Historic Rivers of The Blackstone River
Valley
Did you know that the two major river systems in Grafton are the Quinsigamond
River and the Blackstone River? Did you know that the Quinsigamond River and the
water impounded behind Hovey Dam in North Grafton were a major water supply
source to the original 1820’s Blackstone Canal? Did you know that the
Blackstone River is an American Heritage River?
The Blackstone Valley Paddle Club events occur each summer at various access
points along the rivers in the Blackstone Valley.
Whether you are looking for a new river to conquer, or you always just wanted to
give paddling a try, here’s your chance to discover what’s around the bend.
The Paddle Club program is suitable for all levels of experience. The program is
sponsored by the National Heritage Corridor Commission in conjunction with the
Rhode Island Canoe and Kayak Association and the Great Canadian Canoe Company.
The first Tuesday of June, July and August will be an “Introduction to
paddling training” session, where you can learn the basics of Canoe or Kayak
paddling. Contact www.ricka.org.
