St. Gabriel the Archangel Knights of Columbus
St. Gabriel the Archangel Knights of
Columbus Council #12897 has earned the Double Star Council Award for the
2006-2007 fraternal year. This is the highest award given by the National
Supreme Council. To achieve this award the council conducted programs for
church, community, family, and youth and increased membership and
insurance. Grand Knight, Gerry Healy, would like to express his
appreciation and thanks to all members and their wives who participated and
helped to make this a very successful year. The new officers for the
2007-2008 fraternal year are Grand Knight Don Cook, Deputy Grand Knight Jack
Kennedy, Chancellor Scott Godowski, Recorder Joe Ethier, Financial Secretary
Mike Merolli, Treasurer Allen Tatro, Advocate Ralph Mosher, Warden John
Cicchese, Inside Guard John Hawkins, Outside Guard Russ Dudley, Trustees
Gordon Scott, Tom Becker and Gerry Healy.
St.Gabriel the
Archangel Knights of Columbus Council #12897 also won four state awards for
the 2006-2007 fraternal year reported by Gerry Healy, Grand Knight of the
council. The first award was the "Top Gun Award" for meeting certain
membership goals that were assigned by the State Council. The Council
received the "Best Council Award" for the overall achievements as a
Council. The third award was the "Honor Council" for the council activities
and special projects. The Knights also received an award for "Best Council
Activity" in the state. Vincent M. Rumasuglia, State Deputy, made the
presentation of awards at the Massachusetts State Convention held in
Sturbridge on May 20, 2007.
The Knights will be sponsoring the
Harvest Festival at St. Michaels in Mendon, which will be held on Saturday,
September 29th, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All are welcomed to
attend and participate in the many festivities.
The Harvest Festival is the first part
of a very special weekend for St. Gabriel the Archangel parish. On Sunday,
September 30th at 2:00 p.m., Bishop McManus will be blessing of
the land for the new parish. This will take place at the new church site on
Mendon Street in Upton. This special event will be followed at 3:00 p.m. by
a chicken barbeque to be held at the VFW parking lot adjacent to Holy Angels
in Upton.
