Victory Day
With Rhode Island being the only
state to honor Victory Day, on Monday, August 13, residents and visitors can
participate in local salutes for World War II veterans, along with
experiencing the casual community atmosphere of a summertime weekend in
historic Blackstone River Valley.
Over the holiday period, from August 10-13, an annual community
tradition, unique historical sites and honoring those in military service
will be the featured attractions.
Supporting our local troops
Victory Day comemorates the Surrender of Japan, which was initially
announced on August 14 1945 ending combat in the Second World War. In Japan.
Today, with many local troops serving in the Middle East, come and enjoy
local recreation and a chance to honor those in service.
Sunday, August 12, 10 am-4 pm, in Burrillville,
RI, attend RI Army National Guard Day at beautiful Spring Lake Town Beach,
located in Glendale village.
RI Army National Guard "NASCAR RACE CAR" Nextel Cup Series #25 will be
visiting along with the RI Army National Guard Rock Wall and Fishing with
Finnegan will also be performing from 1:00 to 3:00 pm with 1/2 price
admission to the beach.
Spring Lake Beach Facility is located at 50
Old Hillside Drive, Glendale, and offers waters edge slides and a full time
lifeguard staff, along with a penny arcade, restaurant, ice cream building,
pavilion, recreation hall for rentals, canoe rentals, paddleboat rentals,
restrooms and hot/cold outdoor showers.
Hours are daily from Wednesday, August 1st thru Labor Day, September 3rd
from 10 am to dusk.
Daily admission is Burrillville Residents $1.50, Non-Residents $3.00
