Blow
Out Bash
Come help Slater Mill toast the mill
workers of the past while we recreate an historic night with food, music,
candlelight and friends
Pawtucket, RI:
Slater Mill, located at 67
Roosevelt Avenue in the heart of Pawtucket, will celebrate its first
Blow Out Bash on Thursday, March 20, 2008 from 5:30-8:00 PM. The
cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members.
Slater Mill will host its first Blow Out Bash in honor of the
old mill tradition that took place each year in the spring. From September
20th when the mill lamps were lighted for the first time each
fall, the mill worked by lamplight each evening until the night of March 20th
when the lamps were blown out for the last time of the winter season. The
mill windows were now dark after sunset causing the workday to become
shorter- truly a cause for celebration! Traditionally, it was a joyous and
energetic evening welcoming the next six months when workers were allowed to
end the average twelve hour work day at sunset, affording them more time
each day to spend with family and friends.
Come
join us as we re-create this special historic night in the first floor of
Slater Mill complete with music, light fare and the symbolic blowing out of
the lanterns.
