It's almost here...and the weather forecast for the weekend is perfect!!  (Beautiful sunny day with high of 76 and low of 56). The 2nd Annual Flames of Hope...A Celebration of Life at WaterFire event is this Saturday, October 6, 2007.  Don't miss this spectacular event.   Bring your family, friends and co-workers!   We need your help!

This year's festivities will begin at 5:30 PM with the Providence Singers at the RI State House for the enormously uplifting Flames of Hope Torch Parade and the lighting of the RI State House in Pink to celebrate National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.   Over 300 torch bearers will arrive in the WaterFire basin at approximately 6:45 PM while Classical Pianist Silvard plays his magical renditions from the WaterFire basin.   Our new Flames of Hope Village, sponsored by Whole Foods Market will feature The Pink Ribbon VIP Party beginning at 6:00 PM, and our new and exciting Flames of Hope Wine Tasting Event (Sponsored by Douglas Wine & Spirits).  This year's events include delicious foods, delectable hors d'ouvres, decadent desserts, and delicious wines from around the world.  Entertainment will also be provided...so bring your dancing shoes.  Our new Cotton Candy Boutique will feature clothing, jewelry and accessories so be sure to stop by and purchase a few of your favorite things!  The new Flames of Hope Gallery Night will be presented by Berge' Zobian and will feature artists from around the globe.  Participate in the live and silent auctions featuring some of the most sought after sports memorabilia, or relax and enjoy the sounds of the fabulous band Brass Attack.  Don't forget to visit with our generous sponsors and breast health care providers in the Sponsor/Education Pavilion.   There is plenty of food at our new food courts featuring many of your WaterFire favorites.  Local radio personalities from Clear Channel Radio, Citadel Communications, WEEI, WBRU and WCTK will also be on hand to help out in the fight against breast cancer.

In 2004, the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation was established in memory of Gloria Gemma, and in honor of her courageous fight against breast cancer.  She was a mother, daughter, sister, wife, a devoted grandmother, and a true friend to many.  What was thought to be a mild case of pneumonia, turned into a deadly case of breast cancer that was not diagnosed in time.   Gloria Gemma was an inspiration to all who knew her.  She demonstrated exemplary courage and strength throughout her ordeal with breast cancer, and remains in the hearts of all who knew her.  Our objectives are to raise awareness, increase education, and generate funding for critical breast health programs that are in desperate need of being brought to fruition.  Our mission is to help local breast cancer organizations in their fight to raise breast cancer awareness, to work for its prevention, and to bring comfort and help to patients and families in our community.  Our promise is that 100% of the net proceeds will remain right here in our local community.  We recognize breast self examination as a critical tool in the fight against breast cancer.  We also recognize all of the breast health care providers as essential partners in the war against this disease.
