The event will be held on Sunday, March 18th at the UU Church at 3 Grafton Common from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. This non-denominational event is open to anyone who is curious about labyrinths, would like to experience walking mediation or would like to see what our Youth Group has been up to this year! Under the guidance, inspiration and sponsorship of Susan West, the UUSGU Youth Group constructed a seven circuit, classical style labyrinth that will be unveiled at the service Sunday morning, March 18th at 10:00am. Laura Trendell will be leading the service with the Youth Group and Ms. West. The service will elaborate on the history of labyrinths, its worldwide cultural and spiritual significance, and the modern day resurgence of interest in this ancient treasure. "I’ve always been fascinated with labyrinths,” West said. “On my anniversary the year after my husband died, I walked a labyrinth and had a transformative healing experience. Then I knew it was something that I wanted to share with our community. Working with the Youth Group to create this has been a great way to make this available for everyone." P. Lovecraft The Rhode Island Historical Society joins the Brown University Public Humanities program and its Pulp Uncovered festival (March 15 – 18) by offering a 90 minute walking tour that celebrates the life and work of Howard Phillips Lovecraft on Saturday, March 17, 2007 at 11 a.m. Acknowledged genius of occult and horror fiction, Lovecraft’s “Providence stories” (written between 1924 and 1935) provide the basis for this literary walk. Passages from The Case of Charles Dexter Ward, Haunter of the Dark, The Shunned House, and many letters written to family and friends offer astounding detail about the life and time of this popular author. Although Lovecraft died 70 years ago this year, most Providence sites that he described in the 1920’s can still be seen today. The tour begins at Brown University’s Van Wickle Gates (intersection of College and Prospect Streets). Tickets are $10/person and may be purchased the morning of the tour. Reservations for the walk are strongly recommended.
