Cultural Council
Corner
by Tasha Halpert
The grant awarded by the Grafton
Cultural Council to the Blackstone Valley Community Concert Band is money
well spent. This is an all-volunteer organization made up of musicians
ranging in age from 13 to 82. People from all walks of life including
students, chemists, pharmacists, computer workers and more meet weekly on
Thursdays at the Whitin Middle School in Uxbridge to practice together.
The BVCC gives two free indoor and 8 to
10 outdoor concerts a year. Their next performance titled Shall We Dance
will be held at the Northbridge High School on April 18. A holiday concert
takes place in December. During the summer months they can be heard at
various places in the Blackstone Valley including the Grafton Common July
30.
The Band welcomes musicians of at least
high school proficiency and anyone can join at any time. At present one
Grafton resident, Alison Enman, currently plays with them. Anyone wishing
more information can contact Kathleen Penza at 774 364 3127, or
