Worcester, MA: Teodolo C. Ramos, Sr. AKA Teddy
C. Ramos of Douglas, formerly of Quezon City, Philippines, died
Saturday, April 26, 2008, at the UMass Memorial Medical Center,
University Campus surrounded by his family. He was 71.
Born in Auitan, San Pablo, Isabela, Philippines, he had been a
resident of Douglas since July 2005. He was the son of the late Elias
and Engracia (Collantes) Ramos. During his college days, Ramos was a
columnist and alumni editor of the Varsitarian, official organ of the
University of Santo Tomas (UST). He graduated with a Bachelor of
Literature major in Journalism degree (Litt.B.) from UST, college of
Philosophy and letters in 1958. He was initially with the Evening News
(EN) as a police reporter and was connected with the Manila Chronicle as
a CNS correspondent then became the Managing Editor of The Valley Times.
He traveled extensively as EN Transport and Tourism Editor to Europe and
Asia. He was a 2nd Lt. Reserved (ROTC) and was Promotions Manager for
Swiss International Investment Co., Inc. In 1965, he was the weekly
newsbroadcaster for radio station DZCV, Cagayan Valley News Roundup. He
became a staff member of the Philippine News Agency in Intramuros and
was Secretary of the Manila City Hall Press Club. With the Manila
Bulletin Publishing Corporation, he penned a weekly column titled "It's
The Law" for Tempo, then became the Night Editor. He graduated with a
Bachelor of Laws degree at Manuel L. Quezon University. His book, "Let
There be Light," a Compilation of News and Letters, includes
personal news coverage since 1954 published in Kislap Graphics,
Philippine Free Press, Manila Times and Mirror Magazine. The book
chronicles many exciting experiences he has had in newspaper work. He
retired from Manila Bulletin in 2004 then immigrated to the US. In 2006,
he had been selected to the Class of Leadership Blackstone Valley with a
scholarship. He partnered with Buzzword Media for Planet Philippines and
became the New England Edition Publisher with the maiden issue released
in March 2007.
He leaves his wife of 43 years,
Estrella Luyun Ramos, their children Gracienita (Kanagawa,
Japan), Gretheline (Douglas, MA) , Gladiola (Milford, MA), Gay Estrella,
Ma. Concepcion (both of Woodmere, NY), Genevieve (Caloocan City,
Philippines) and Teodolo L., Jr. (Quezon City, Philippines.) He also
leaves his loving grandchildren Erika, Eisha, Yujin, Jessica, Gino,
Lilly, Max, Avigail, Adonis, Yelena, Cayla and Carlo.
A healing Mass was attended by his family, Sunday, April 27, 2008,
at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette in Marlboro, MA. As per
the family's request, his remains will be cremated. A Memorial service
for Teodolo C. Ramos Sr., will be held Saturday, May 10, 2008, at 9
AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 5 East Main Street Milford, MA
01757. Services will be provided by Consigli Ruggerio Funeral Home, Inc.
The interment will be at Quezon City, Philippines.
