Fifth Annual Troop Support Benefit a Huge
Success
On January 25, 2008 over two
hundred people gathered at the Uxbridge V.F.W. to show support for local
troops stationed state-side and overseas. Uxbridge Supports Our Troops
hosted the dance, and it proved to be a very successful fundraiser for the
group. Through the funds raised, troops on USOT’s list will continue to
receive phone cards, care packages, and other comforts of home all year
long.
The benefit began with the
singing of the National Anthem by Uxbridge resident, Craig Robbins.
Veterans of all eras were recognized and honored. Dinner and dancing
followed, with sounds from Ken Dicillo, DJ.
The event would not have been
nearly as successful if it wasn’t for the generous community. All of the
event’s food was graciously donated by local businesses, including St.’s
General Store, Uxbridge; Quaker Deli, Uxbridge; Colleen’s Catering,
Uxbridge; Jean’s Catering, Milford; the American Legion, Uxbridge; and
Falzone’s, Douglas. USOT would also like to thank John Smedes and Ralph
True of Uxbridge for food donations, as well as Rep. Jennifer Callahan who
graciously donated pastries.
Raffle items were also
generously donated by the following businesses:
New Uxbridge Times, Holly Crawford-
Stampin’ Up, The Gig Stop, All that Glitters, Service Solutions, Bob’s Auto,
The Welcoming Lantern, Brushstrokes Unlimited, Kensho-Ryu Family Kenpo,
Fresco’s, Cloud Nine Home, Pat Devries – Beijo Bags, Friendly’s, Hannafords,
Papa Gino’s, Renaissance Books, Century Liquors, First Holiday Night
Committee, The Rainbow Palette, The Blue Duck, Wayside Antiques, Shaw’s,
Jumbo Donuts, Foodworks, Heavenly Hair Plus, Niko’s, Brian’s, Lynch’s
Riverview Wine and Spirits, Graphic Incorporate, North End Pizza,
Inspirations Salon, Sparetime Recreation, Kapi’s Pub, Frame Sense, Hairworks
Salon, Harry’s Pizza, Cut and Curl, and Blackstone Valley Signs. Please
support the before mentioned businesses and thank them for their support of
the U.S. troops. Many members of the community also contributed to the
raffle table with beautiful hand-made items, gift baskets, and other donated
items.
In addition, a beautiful,
queen-size, patriotic quilt, hand-stitched by the Blackstone Heritage Quilt
Guild was raffled off as well. The guild is made up of seventy-five local
women, and their countless hours of hard work produced the most exquisite
patriotic quilt won by Rep. Jennifer Callahan.
